Welcome to the B-Side! I started this blog as an outlet for my ideas about music. I’ve been a lover of music from a young age. I remember childhood band t-shirts, singing in the car with my parents, and a lifelong obsession sparked by my dad’s Wii game (thanks Rockband). Since then, I’ve always had a deep interest in the writing, politics and literature of music. I’ve previously studied music, but since graduating, I’ve not had the opportunities to write about music in the way I once enjoyed, and so the B-Side was created!

I think some of the greatest songs ever released were B-sides. They’re important, but they’re not always leading the charge like the A-side. This is kind of how I see myself and my relationship with music. I love performing and playing, but part of me has always felt more comfortable in the background or on the sidelines. I love just talking about music, looking back and seeing how far it has come, examining how closely it intertwines with our everyday lives and how it has the power to change the world around us. It’s not necessarily the way people always engage with or think about music, in the way that B-sides are not necessarily the songs that jump out to the forefront, but it’s a way that connects me, and many others, to music.
I plan to write about a range of music, new and old, from across the genres. I’m hoping to write reviews, opinion pieces, music history and more. Honestly, I’m not even sure if I’m any good at writing like this, but I’m hoping to make it my own. I’m hoping it also gives me a chance to discover some new favourites. I think we all have tendencies to get stuck in musical ruts with our listening, and for me this is a way to not only share my thoughts, but grow my playlist just that little bit more. I’ll also be posting some extra content on the B-Side socials, so make sure to follow along there too.
The first post will be coming very soon, so keep your eyes peeled. If there’s anything you’d like to see me write, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m always open to suggestions, especially if it gives me a chance to broaden my musical horizons. Thank you for being here, and I hope you enjoy the B-Side!
